The “Festas do Mar” are an ancient festive tradition held yearly in Cascais, in honour of Our Lady of Seafarers. The SEAT Ateca was the main sponsor of this year’s edition of the popular celebrations. The challenge we faced was to come up with a way of creating a connection between these two entities in a way that would highlight this collaboration. Our response was to come up with a film that presents the SEAT Ateca to the town of Cascais and celebrates its heritage and memory with a sculpture depicting one of the most important symbols of the “Festas do Mar”. The fisherman, a pivotal figure in the history of Cascais, thus emerges as a key icon in this context. The piece we created is inspired by an old photograph of a fisherman found in the City Council archives which was then redesigned, carved, imploded with the aid of explosives and cut in Corten Steel. The piece was offered to Cascais City Council and will be displayed as a permanent feature outside the Centro Cultural de Cascais, in the town’s Museum Quarter.
